Stationary running is typically done for two reasons: 1) to warm up 2) for sport-specific movement preparation such as sprinting. The VertiMax adds new dimension to the stationary run by enabling the muscles to work under constant resistance. The key to this drill is to move quickly and in short bursts. For this exercise, the VertiMax V6+ model or higher is recommended. In addition, the following VertiMax accessories will provide the greatest benefit as you perform the drill: waist belt, hip flexor harness, and hand straps.
Instructions:
Stand in the middle of the VertiMax platform. Secure the waist belt, hip flexor harness, and hand straps. Ensure each connection point is secure. Run in place for approximately 10 - 15 seconds. Take a short rest, then continue running. Perform the drill in intervals with 5 to 10 seconds of rest in between each burst. Be sure to keep your knees high and stay on your toes with each step. Incorporate the use of arms swings to generate momentum and help facilitate proper running mechanics.
Step 1
Secure waist belt, hip flexor harness, and hand straps. Run in place. Focus on proper running mechanics. Incorporate arm swings.
Step 2
Perform in quick intervals with 5 to 10 seconds of rest in between.
